Young Adult cancer survivors participated in Art4Healing workshops "A Look Inside My Body", "Colors Beneath the Sea", and "One Thing I Am Grateful For" They learned to express emotions related to their journey.
The group enjoyed the calm, mediative environment, and connecting to other survivors...
There was laughter...there were tears. They expressed the feeling that 'painting is good for the soul.'
"I loved being mindful of my feelings, laughing, and painting."
"I'm more in tune with how my mind and body are feeling"
"Bringing our emotions to the canvas. Seeing what it looks like helped me see my emotions a little more clearly"
"Trying something I have never done before"
"Not thinking so much...just going for it"
"I felt calmer, more joyful, more at peace when I was done"
"I enjoy art...and talking about our feelings"
They enjoyed the calming "Colors Beneath The Sea" exercise, and were uplifted by "Gratitude."
The "Look Inside My Body" brought some tougher feelings to the surface. This is part of the healing process, to feel those uncomfortable feelings, and put them to abstract colors to allow a different perspective.
All expressed interest in doing another workshop...
